Technician of worksite collective protections; Technician of collective safety systems

Description

The technician of group safety gear is responsible for carrying out and organising on the worksite all tasks of assembling, maintenance, adaptation and updating of different protective means and equipment that are used to assure the safety of worksite employees according to the criteria established in the corresponding health and safety plan or at the request of the safety coordinator, the site manager, the risk prevention experts or the worksite director.

Thanks to different factors such as the entry into force of Act 31/1995 on Workplace Risk Prevention, which establishes the company's obligation to take the preventive or protective measures necessary to guarantee workers' health and safety; the entry into force of Royal Decree 1627/1997, which establishes the minimum safety conditions for construction sites; and the progressive awareness of the need to eliminate or reduce the risks of accidents or professional illnesses, this new occupation has been growing, with increasingly specialised professionals in the area of implementing preventive and protective measures in situ that guarantee construction workers' safety.

Tasks

  • Using the worksite safety plan, identify and prepare the equipment, protection means and elements that must be implemented.
  • Prepare the worksite, identifying the services that are affected and organising the work environment.
  • Select and prepare the materials, tools, machines, accessories, auxiliary means and protective equipment necessary to execute the works.
  • Execute tasks for scaffolding assembly, use, dismantling and conservation for works in height.
  • Prepare and use lifting platforms, baskets and other elevating devices.
  • Redesign and install perimeter fences, protective handrails to prevent falls to different levels,safety nets and ropes, protective covers for horizontal holes, protective supports to prevent workers from falling, protective awnings to prevent objects from falling and life lines for works at heights.
  • Implement health and safety signposting at the worksite, installing the signs needed for the different work phases.
  • Install fire-fighting equipment during the work phase and first-aid kits for worksite personnel.
  • Supervise, maintain and update the different protection elements during the development of the different work phases.
