Bartenders prepare, make and serve drinks to customers in hotels, bars, restaurants, cafeterias and clubs. These professionals share work and responsibilities with the waiters, depending on the type of establishment where they work, but are basically in charge of bar service. Some barman are specialists at making cocktails.


  • Accept orders from customers and serve them drinks
    Serve all types of drinks (soft drinks, wines, liqueurs, cava, sparkling wines, etc.).
    Pull a draught beer or serve it from a bottle.
    Make cocktails by mixing various ingredients.
    Cut and mix fruits to make juices.
    Prepare and serve coffees and teas.
    In some establishments prepare and serve food such as sandwiches, mixed dishes, tapas, canaps, etc. that do not require a high level of specialization.
    Considers the preferences of customers and tell them, if necessary, of the offer available in the establishment.
  • Make up the bill, collect it and return any change to the customer.
  • Prepare and maintain the bar and other areas of the establishment in perfect condition.
    Collect glasses (and other eating utensils) and put them in the dishwasher.
    Maintain and clean the bar and shelves and empty ashtrays.
    Keep all utensils and machinery in perfect condition (coffee machine, microwave, liquidizer, dishwasher, etc.).
    Clean the tables if it is part of the responsibility.
    Re-stock any machines that dispense drinks or other items.
    Clear up and close the establishment.
    Ensure compliance with specific safety and hygiene standards for restaurants.
  • Collaborate in the organization of the establishment's store or cellar.
    Help in the organization of the store and stock control.
    May be responsible for making purchases from suppliers.
