Beauty specialist

Description

Beauticians are responsible for carrying out and applying body beauty treatments, as well as beauty treatments focused on different areas or parts of the body, with the aim of caring for and beautifying the person they serve.

These professionals know the most demanded treatments, such as hair removal, manicures and pedicures, makeup, aesthetic massages or tanning, and often they specialise in a specific type of service, which can range from treatments for men to thanatoaesthetics, mastering more specific techniques.

An important part of their work consists of advising their clients in a personalised way and depending on their needs and characteristics, on the most appropriate type of therapies in each case, as well as giving specific guidelines and routines to maintain the positive effects of the treatments and to improve their care.

Tasks

  • Receive customers, usually by appointment, and ask about the needs they are interested in and the areas to be treated. If appropriate, make an estimate of the service.
  • Advise customers on the type of service and the most appropriate technique according to the information expressed and personal characteristics.
  • Evaluate the area to be treated and make sure that there are no incompatible pains with the treatment to be applied. They are also in charge of advising in favour or against contraindicated treatments for certain situations (skin lesions, in case of pregnancy, etc.).
  • Provide information on the treatment, how it will be carried out and specially warn about dangers or side effects if there are any.
  • Ask customers to lie in the optimal position to carry out the service and prepare and adapt the facilities, technical means and necessary products, applying the required safety measures (eye protection or others).
  • Execute the services or treatments requested by customers according to their speciality: hair-removal, manicures, facials, massages, tanning, etc.
  • Advise on the most suitable beauty products that customers should use before and after each session, in order to achieve an optimal result in the treated area.
  • Invite customers to try new services which they may find useful. The goal is to achieve customers loyalty and make them aware of their beauty needs.
  • Fill out an information sheet detailing the customer's personal details and the monitoring of services offered on each occasion. This sheet will serve as a reference for future visits.
  • Charge for the services, according to the previously-established rates.
  • Look after the maintenance of the booths, cleaning and disinfecting each one before and after every use.
  • Keep track of the latest trends in beauty, specially within their field of expertise, in order to stay up-to-date and learn about new techniques, methodologies, new products, etc.
  • If they work on a self-employed basis, they must organise their work agenda, control the stock of their products, consumable supplies, tools, etc. and place the relevant purchase orders to replenish them.
