Laundry manager in hotels, residences, penitentiaries, hospitals, etc.

Description

These professionals take care of the washing, cleaning and classification of the lingerie and garments at a specific establishment. Therefore, they will be responsible for the hygiene of all clothing, including the linen in the different rooms (bed linen, curtains, towels, tablecloths, etc.), the worker's clothing (uniforms, white coats, etc.) or street or similar clothing used every day by people who stay in these establishments or by residents.

These professionals can be found in companies that, due to the high volume of people they serve, have their own laundry, such as establishments for tourism purposes (hotels, apartments), for health purposes (hospitals, clinics), legal purposes (penitentiaries) or social health centres (residential care homes), among others. Apart from these establishments, these professionals can also work in external companies that provide this service to those establishments.

Tasks

Clothing classification and identification of requirements
  • Ensure that the garments that arrive at the laundry are identified with their corresponding code in order to return them to their recipient correctly.
  • Code unidentified items.
  • Classify the items according to their colour, fabric and required needs.
  • Identify potential damages or stains and choose the most suitable treatment.

Machinery programming and manual operations
  • In charge of programming washing machines, choosing the most suitable washing programme, detergents and fabric softeners.
  • Program dryers, setting the most suitable drying time and temperature for each garment.
  • Load and unload washing machines and dryers.
  • Iron clothes through the programming and manipulation of industrial machines (if it is bed linen) or with manual irons (for other types of clothes).
  • Fold, package and present the items once washed and ironed.

Supervision and maintenance
  • Count and classify items before returning them to customers or to the designated location.
  • In charge of the care and maintenance of work machinery and organising the facilities.
