Description

This is the professional in charge of preparing, assembling and collecting the necessary materials and tools required to to provide a catering service. The different types of catering which usually require set-up services include buffets and cocktails. In some small businesses and on certain occasions, catering waiters can also contribute to set up.

Tasks

  • Responsible for preparing the work and service area, organising the layout of tables, chairs, counters, etc.
  • Check that the catering and table service material (cutlery, dishes, glasses, tableware, etc.) is in a good condition.
  • Ensure that there are sufficient provisions to cater for the number of diners.
  • Prepare the table plans, subsequently set tables and distribute materials as desired.
  • Prepare and set counters.
  • Ensure that all specifications, requirements and protocols are met with regards to preparation and presentation.
  • On occasons, may be required to serve dishes that are already ready or to prepare buffet-style services.
  • Stock service areas and remove items (dishes, glasses, etc.) while the catering service is being provided.
  • Clear up material and clean service areas upon completion of the service.
  • Carry out of an inventory material to ensure that nothing has been left behind, detailing any broken or damage articles.
  • Help to package and distribute utensils for on-board travel catering services.
