Description

Expert consultants on mobility inform and advise on sustainable urban mobility both to private companies and public administration. Their work consists of analysing and diagnosing the mobility situation of one area (metropolitan area, city, neighbourhood, etc.), and design plans and measures to provide solutions to the problems identified.

When they work in the public administration, they propose, among others, comprehensive measures to solve traffic congestion, reduce waiting times in public transport, improve mobility and safety on urban roads, reduce pollution, facilitate access to transport for people with mobility reduced, or minimize environmental impact.

When these professionals advise a private company, they ensure that the quality of workers' movements is improved, and they design mobility plans or route improvements to prevent traffic congestion in the vicinity of the company.

These professionals may work incorporated into the staff of a company, or as external consultants.

Tasks

  • Analyse and diagnose the existing mobility model in a given area (city, neighbourhood or company) by defining hypotheses, analysing data and defining indicators (the traffic situation, public transport, pedestrians and road safety in cities, etc.). To get this information, may conduct surveys through different channels.
  • Design and execute mobility plans in urban, social or business policies promoting public transport or walking, improving accessibility to all spaces, increasing environmental quality and energy savings, recovering urban public space or designing plans to streamline the movement of workers.
  • Consider the criteria of sustainability, accessibility and safety improvement during the implementation of urban mobility plans.
  • Use information and communication technologies in specific areas, such as: public transport services, traffic and road safety in real time, spaces for parking vehicles, architectural barriers, road signs, traffic light prioritization, fare integration, intermodal transport or urban cycling routes, among others.
  • Prepare detailed studies of geographic locations that require the use of digital cartography, remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS).
  • Teach courses on human, urban and sustainable mobility to university students and to people who are interested in the subject or wish to specialize in the field of urban mobility, and also deals with the training of personnel (especially those who travel the most) within a company or organization.
  • Coordinate mobility policies with companies located in the same area, such as industrial estates, logistic activity areas, etc.
  • When these professionals work for a private company, investigate and anticipate commuting accidents in collaboration with the company's occupational risk prevention service. These are the accidents that a worker suffers when travelling from home to work and vice versa, or during the working day, due to work-related causes.
