Fair Trade Manager, Fair Trade Importer, Fair Trade Supplier.

Description

Fair Trade experts manage the importation and/or supply of fair trade products, and coordinate distribution and wholesale. Some of the products sold under Fair Trade standards include foodstuffs. In some cases they are responsible for coordinating the manufacture of products with Fair Trade ingredients by companies, and for subsequently selling these. And, just like other companies, they are responsible for managing finances, the maintenance of facilities, staff and storage.

Tasks

  • Make contacts for the supply of products and/or ingredients under Fair Trade conditions.
  • Follow-up on the international transport; in some cases arrange it and follow-up on the customs procedures, and in other cases simply place a purchase order with a European import organisation (GEPA, CTM, EFTA).
  • Manage the correct receipt of the merchandise in the country (example: customs procedures) and at the shop. It is usually necessary to insure the condition of the merchandise.
  • Control the correct management of the shop, both the facilities and the inventories, as well as the stock and rotation of the products.
  • Coordinate the purchase orders from clients with the supply needs in order to keep the stock of the products at optimal levels.
  • In certain cases, coordinate the manufacture by third parties of products with Fair Trade ingredients and oversee matters such as packaging, labelling, etc.
  • Conduct negotiations in order to achieve optimal prices and invoicing.
  • Plan commercial activities in order to attract buyers.
  • Adapt and manage the team under their responsibility, according to sales needs. Usually is in charge of hired labour in the case of entities set up as cooperatives or societies. In the case of operation as an NGO, they can be in charge of voluntary labour.
  • Supervise the daily work programmes.
  • Inform and educate the customers on the most relevant aspects of Fair Trade.
  • Draw up the budget and manage the invoicing of clients in order to achieve the desired results.
  • Participate in promotional activities in the Fair Trade setting.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the facilities and contract the necessary related services.
  • Analyse the training needs of the workforce and foster their improvement.
