Robot welding specialist

Description

Robot welding uses mechanised programmable tools (robots) in order to create a completely automated welding process, performing the weld and handling the part. Robot welding is commonly used for spot welding and arc welding. Robot welding is used in large series manufacturing, such as the automotive industry. Robot welding is a relatively new application of robotics, which was first introduced in the 1980s, when the automotive industry began to mass use robots for spot welding. Welding robot operators must be able to handle and performance maintenance on welding robots, including programming and troubleshooting.

Robots are used extensively in the car industry, where the automation of welding is essential to the manufacturing process. The constant technical changes in the sector mean that the welding robot operator has to be regularly retrained to keep up to date with new developments and processes in robotics. The robot operator's duties include the following:
  • Interpreting plans and technical specifications for the welding process to be carried out.
  • Programming and setting up the robot according to the technical specifications of the welding work to be done.
