Description
This professional calculates the resistance of structures and elements calculation used in the aeronautical field for aircrafts (wing load, etc.), of the aerostatic or parachute groups, etc, applying calculation techniques for finite elements. Carry out testing until obtaining the optimum solution, by using modelling instruments and model geometrization as a starting point, and in accordance with the type and properties of materials and elements, and environmental conditions. These techniques allows the calculation of force and possible deformation to which these complex structures will be subjected (non-flat and irregular structures). The calculation of structures with finite elements due to their transversal character can be applied in other areas of engineering and physics.
Tasks
Analyse and study the relationship between Fluid Mechanics systems and the circulation of aerostats, parachutes and aircrafts in general. The NASTRAN software is often used, since it is one of strongest analytical tools that exist. Fluids Mechanics describes the behaviour of atmosphere flow around the aircraft, in hypothetical operational conditions.
Design systems based on the application of membranes, which allow the use of different properties, such as eg., permeability to flow.
Manage the establishment of material requirements.
With the assistance of NASTRAN simulation tools, generate various virtual prototypes and choose the most suitable one.
Take charge of the validation and correction of the designs that have been produced by means of various tests. And correctly document these tests.
Training in structure calculation software, ej., the software NASTRAN, PATRAN, ANSYS... and in general, automation tools for pre - and post-processing tasks in the programmes of finite elements. Training in 3-D CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) software, such as, CATIA V.5.
It is very useful that candidates are familiar with CAD-EAC tools that allow for functional and geometric design, and the application of numerical models for the behavioural analysis of elements. Apart from this requirement, no specific experience is necessary to embark on a career in a company that manufactures aerostats or parachutes. Indeed, experience can only be gained by working within a company of this very specific sector, due to the particularity of the activities that are carried out.
People who show an interest in the technical field find fulfilment in carrying out activities related to the design and manufacture of objects, machines, vehicles and/or infrastructures. These activities require the application of scientific and technical knowledge (laws of physics, calculations and mathematical formulas, properties of the materials, etc).
