Biotech packaging engineer

Description

The packing of biological products involves ensuring optimum environmental conditions for correct maintenance of the content (pressure, temperature, pH, saline concentration, etc.), as well as providing a detailed description of the product. It requires working in conjunction with the production (technical feasibility), marketing (the design should fulfill the expectations of experts in sales) and legal departments (to comply with current legislation).

The expert in biotechnological packing supervises the design, development and production of packages for
products containing biological molecules (enzymes, antibodies, DNA, etc.) or living material (biotechnologically synthesized organic products such as membranes, tissues, etc.).

Tasks

  • Assess and determine the packing processes to be used.
  • Assess packing components, suppliers and equipment.
  • Provide support to packing operations and participate in improving these operations.
  • Develop packing operations.
  • Develop and implement changes in packing materials and processes to optimize the effectiveness of the packing process.
  • Manage packing line tests for new and modified components.
  • Assume responsibility for the whole packing process, including vision systems, bar codes, inspection systems, identification problems, and preventive maintenance.
  • Install packing equipment.
