Materials Manager

Description

The materials director is in charge of managing the flow of materials and components, as well as the stocks required to guarantee production. This professional coordinates with the purchasing and production departments to guarantee an efficient flow of materials to the production line and thus prevent any decreases in pace or stalling arising as a result of lacking materials. The materials director often operates with the Just In Time production system and is therefore in charge of ensuring that the delivery, storage and transportation of said materials fall in line with the short timespan during which materials must shift within this system.

Tasks

  • Manage the material purchasing and supply policy.
  • Define physical storage systems. Establish storage and maintenance conditions.
  • Monitor the results of the logistic policy of the company in terms of supply and production related aspects.
  • Draw up purchasing and supply schedules and establish the procedures to be followed.
  • Advise on what needs to be "done or bought" and intervene in proposals regarding changes to be made to the production system.
  • Research how to decrease the costs associated with the specified materials schedule.
  • Manage material stocks.
  • Coordinate stock levels in accordance with anticipated demand.
  • Intervene in the prevention of "out of stock" situations and establish safety stock levels.
  • Define the material requirement plan based on the Production programme.
