Metal fabrication specialist

The metal fabrication specialist is the person responsible for part of the production activity that corresponds to process of chipless machining. This consists of manufacturing metal pieces through chipless machining (metal deformation) using machine-tools, such as presses, shearing machines, folding machines, die cutters, bending cylinders, laser machines, water jet cutting machines, etc. in the case of cold stamping, or hot stamping presses, hammers, etc. in the case of hot stamping, using hot raw materials. Machine-tools can be conventional (unit pieces or small series) or have numerical control (CNC) (medium or long series). Sometimes, they can also be used to carry out electrical and autogenous welding. According to the thickness of the sheet metal being worked, differentiation can be made between light, medium and heavy metal fabrication. This profile answers to the workshop or plant manager or the production director.

• Draw up the technical specifications of the production process.
• Prepare the machine-tools and equipment. In the case of CNC machines, prepare and develop the computer programmes.
• Ensure that the production process is carried out in accordance with the technical specifications and within the indicated period.
• Control the quality and propose improvements together with the quality department.
• Schedule preventive maintenance, in accordance with the maintenance department.
• Manage the raw material stocks together with the purchasing department.
• In the event of outsourced jobs, maintain technical relationships with clients.
• Lead the team responsible for the production process.
• Collaborate with the people in charge of occupational and environmental risk prevention.
