Description

These professionals draw up the design sketches of the products that will later be produced. They should have the creative, technical and aesthetic capacity to design and manage the production of the garment through a knowledge of clothing and essential textile materials, with comprehensive knowledge of fashion from the creative, cultural, functional, manufacturing and commercial point of view.

Tasks

  • Analyse market trends, compile and discuss all information regarding the trends for each season.
  • Analyse sociocultural trends: consult information about previous collections, compile information on consumer tastes and preferences and make statistical analysis of the company's models.
  • Apply the concepts imposed by fashion to designs with discretion and audacity according to the buying public and the resources available (textile materials, accessories, human and economic capital).
  • Establish the basic lines of collections, also designing accessories and complements to the main collection.
  • Seek, contact and assess fabric suppliers.
  • Study and select different textile materials and colours.
  • Sketch the collection's garments for production either by using a computer or manually.
  • Create prototypes of the proposals by designing the pattern, scaling, and industrial confection to check the approach, prepare the demonstration samples and draft the technical specifications for the prototypes.
  • Manage, control and supervise the execution of the designs.
