Description

According to the UNE 166006:2006 Standard, technology watch is defined as an organised, selective and permanent process of collecting scientific and technological information from the outside and from one's own organisation. The aim is to select, analyse, disseminate, communicate and convert it into knowledge in order to anticipate changes and take decisions with the least amount of risk regarding new products and R&D&I projects and systems. The technology watch manager is responsible for identifying new needs and market trends. As part of the business intelligence department, the technology watch manager must stay ahead of the market through information searches and stay up-to-date with the "state of the art", in other words, the most recent patents and the specialised publications and innovations that arise in the company's sphere of activity. The processing of this information is crucial for taking decisions related to the management of the company's strategies.

Tasks

  • Seek, analyse and use relevant information to take strategic decisions for the company related to possible business opportunities and threats.
  • Stay up-to-date with the technological innovations emerging in the overall fraemwork.
  • Anticipate and write proposals for new projects, products and services based on the information obtained.
  • Seek and analyse patent, publication and news databases on fields that are of interest for the organisation.
  • Conduct studies on technological and/or scientific innovations, which consider regulatory and market aspects that can affect their success.
  • Follow-up on the activity and products of competitors and potential partners, and on the opinions and works of experts, key opinion leaders (KOL) and users on the organisation's strategic fields of interest.
  • Attend conferences, fairs and events.
