Assembly line operator

Description

Electronic equipment assemblers are responsible for the automatic or manual assembly of small internal components such as transistors, diodes, resistors, capacitors, coils, optical components, etc, on printed circuit boards and chassis. Where necessary, they are also responsible for adjusting circuits to ensure they deliver the performance levels required and to operate devices.

Tasks

  • Interpret the technical specifications in plans, diagrams and drawings, which explain how to assemble the components.
  • Handle welding and surface mount machines.
  • Use soldering irons, rivets, adhesive pastes and utilise specific assembly techniques, some of which may be extremely sophisticated, requiring limited intervention by the assembler.
  • Mount electronic and optical components and subsystems on integrated circuits, chassis, boxes and terminal boxes.
  • They are also responsible for carrying out intermediate assembly tasks such as: polishing, cleaning surfaces and contacts, stamping, colour coding, engraving and joining or sticking pieces together.
  • Adjust components and mounts in order to achieve the characteristics desired.
  • Perform tests and inspections, ensuring that the assemblies comply with the specifications for which they have been designed.
