Description

Curators are responsible for designing the theoetical and conceptual discourse for exhibitions. They specialise in the subject matter for the exhibition, know the works that will be exhibited and, therefore, are able to equip the exhibition dialogue with scientific content.

Tasks

  • Draw up the theoretical discourse for the exhibition, performing the research required to endow it with scientific content.
  • Create the index for the pieces, works or cultural goods that will be exhibited.
  • Take charge of establishing relations with those whose works will be exhibited.
  • Supervise the contents of exhibition texts, assuring that they match the theoretical dialogue at all times.
  • Participate in creating the exhibition script and designing the exhibition in order to define the written resources, the rhythm of the exhibition, aesthetic resources, etc.
  • Participate in creating the exhibition catalogue.
In those projects whose budget prevents hiring a large staff, the curator will take on a large part of the tasks for technically coordinating the exhibition, such as coordinating the professional team that takes part in the production, taking out the pertinent insurance policies and hiring services from specialist companies that set up and dismantle shows and coordinating roaming circuits.
